This past season, we saw breakthrough performances, debuts, podium appearances, top results, and most notably, loads of team spirit that generated success on the course and fed momentum both during and away from competition. It was difficult to narrow down our highlights! As the team heads into a much deserved rest period, we look forward to the upcoming training season as we prepare for the 2025-26 Olympic season!

Campbell’s Silverware

Campbell Wright’s season kicked off with a personal best result and second flower ceremony appearance in Kontiolahti, FIN, fourth place in the men’s individual. A string of top results in trimester one and two fed into the 2025 World Championships, where Campbell made history as the first U.S. male athlete to medal in a World Championship sprint, the first U.S. athlete to medal in a World Championship pursuit, AND first U.S. athlete to double medal at a single World Championships. He also took home the U.S.’s first-ever U23 Globe, finishing the season ranked 17th in the world with 455 points on the World Cup Total Score. To top it off, Campbell’s podium appearances in Lenzerheide pre-qualified him for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympic Winter Games.*

*Note that this is a nomination. Only the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee can name an athlete to an Olympic team.

Single Mixed Relay Success

Deedra Irwin and Campbell Wright raced to an impressive 5th place in the Pokljuka single mixed relay - just 9.1 seconds back from a podium and 21.2 seconds back from a victory! This was the best single mixed performance since Susan Dunklee & Sean Doherty took home bronze in 2021! The pair have had their share of solid results in the single mixed relay, including a historic seventh place finish at the 2024 World Championships in Nove Mesto na Morave, CZE. Unfortunately, the single mixed relay is not recognized as an Olympic discipline, but we look forward to seeing what this duo is capable of next season!

Paul’s Comeback

After competing at the 2023 World Championships in Oberhof, GER, Paul Schommer ended his season early to undergo knee surgery. For the last two years, Paul has been battling back to full health with the goal of returning to international racing. In January 2025, he made his comeback on the IBU Cup, racing to 3 top 10 finishes, including two bronze medals in Ridnaun-Val Ridanna, ITA. Paul then qualified for World Championships after solid results at Open European Championships, where he raced to a World Championship personal best 24th in the men’s individual. Paul then finished out the season on the World Cup.

The Power of Team

The power of team was felt throughout the season, both on and off the course. From cheering on teammates and celebrating successes, to banding together through the hard times and not-so-great results, the U.S. Biathlon Team wore the stars and stripes with pride, together. On the course, we saw some fantastic performances from our relay teams this season. The women’s relay quad of Deedra Irwin, Margie Freed, Luci Anderson, and Grace Castonguay raced to 16th in Hochfilzen, then later in the season Deedra, Chloe, Luci, and Margie raced to 15th in Nove Mesto! The men’s relay team of Maxime Germain, Campbell Wright, Jake Brown, and Sean Doherty began the season with 6th in Kontiolahti and 9th in Antholz; Campbell, Maxime, Paul, and Sean also raced to 9th in Lenzerheide! Our mixed relay team of Chloe, Margie, Jake, and Maxime raced to 12th in Pokljuka, the best result since the Oslo World Cup in 2024. Go USA!

Maxime’s Pursuit Dominance

Maxime Germain entered the 2024-25 season in full force, proving he can be a top competitor on the World Cup. In addition to 20th in the Kontiolahti World Cup short individual, 12th in the World Championships sprint, and 28th in his first mass start at World Championships, Maxime dominated in the pursuits this season - specifically Oberhof, Antholz, and Oslo - moving up a grand total of 71 positions. Here’s a breakdown: 25 positions from bib 47 to 22nd in the Oberhof World Cup, 32 positions from bib 58 to 26 in the Antholz World Cup, and 14 positions from bib 56 to 42nd in the Oslo World Cup!

Luci’s Debuts

Lucinda “Luci” Anderson jumped into biathlon in summer 2024 after her graduation from UNH, where she skied for their Nordic team. In November 2024, Luci first made her IBU Cup debut in Idre Fjäll, SWE, then her World Cup debut in Hochfilzen, AUT in mid-December 2024, then finally her World Championship debut in Lenzerheide in February 2025! Luci’s top results of the season include: 21st in the Idre Fjäll IBU Cup pursuit, 25th in the Geilo IBU Cup sprint, and 42nd in the World Championships individual! Luci also ended the season with the 17th fastest ski speed on the World Cup! Keep an eye out for her next season!
