Nikolas "Nik" is the son of Markus and Annette Burkhart and has one older brother, Max, and a family dog named Birkie. His favorite meal is all Mexican food! He lived in Aspen Valley for one year following high school training and racing with AVSC, and his all-time favorite Nordic destination is Ashcroft (CO). With the goal of becoming more mechanically inclined, Nik is currently in the process of doing a complete engine rebuild and restoration of a busted-up 1964 Yamaha MG1T. He knows this project will teach him the intricacies of transmissions, carburetors, and 2-stroke motors. In the end, he hopes he will have a running motorcycle and not a hunk of scrap! Nik was introduced to laser biathlon when he was 10 while learning to Nordic ski. He loved the aspect of shooting and, years later, began competitively doing biathlon. Pokljuka (SVN) is his favorite venue to race at.

Nik is a kinesthetic learner and he loves tinkering/making things with his hands. Sewing bags and or modifying my existing gear until it is exactly how he wants it is a passion of his. He loves downhill skiing and ski touring in the off-season; On powder days you may find him "adjusting" training to target a specific leg workout. Growing up near Lake Tahoe Nik is drawn to bodies of water and the activities that surround them; fly fishing is pure relaxation and allows him to disconnect from the intensity of training. Sail racing is one of his favorite things to do, he worked as a sailing instructor in High School.
