Twelve U.S. Athletes to Race Alpen Cup Finals and Italian Cup Championships
Twelve U.S. athletes will embark on a two-week European racing tour, beginning with the Alpen Cup Finals in Arber, Germany, from March 3-6. Following the Alpen Cup Finals, the team will head south to Antholz, Italy to race the world-class course and future venue for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympic Winter Games biathlon events, where they will compete in the Italian Cup Championships from March 13-16.
Eastern Regional Coordinator and Ethan Allen Biathlon Club Director John Madigan, in collaboration with U.S. Biathlon Director of Athlete Development Tim Burke, has played a pivotal role in expanding international racing opportunities for U.S. biathletes this season. Recognizing the importance of international competition in the development of American athletes, Madigan and Burke spearheaded this trip aimed at providing opportunities for high-level racing experiences, fostering growth and preparedness for future elite events.
Amongst the 12 athletes competing for the U.S., four stem from the National Guard Biathlon program based in Jericho, VT. In addition to supporting their four athletes, the National Guard Biathlon program will also be sending two coaches, 3x Olympic biathlete Leif Nordgren and Drew Gelinas, to support Team USA in Germany and Italy.
